December Guest Speaker: Brian Agovino from “Trivia Riot”
December 2nd, 2025
Today, our guest speaker is Brian Agovino, the owner of the “Trivia Riot” company. He shared with us the history of hosting Trivia events in St. Louis and their popularity over the years. He told us his company’s story, from its first Trivia Night event for his friends in 2005, and how it has grown over the last 20 years from 2 members (his wife and himself) to 8 additional employees (2 ladies and six gentlemen). Brian stressed that he and his wife do a lot of research, looking for material or history titbits for new trivia questions.
They like to test their new Trivia program with attendees at the Mattingly’s Sports Bar to see how people respond to new questions. Brian mentioned that, to prevent people from cheating at the event, he suggested that winners receive prizes in the form of sweets or small gifts, so people would not be tempted to bend the rules
He is in the process of expanding his company, starting a franchise in Chicago, and possibly in several other places. He commented that the group in Chicago that asked Brian to run the Trivia event for them had no idea how to play it. They had no clue that you need to form a team in advance to play at your table, not just randomly join someone at the event.

Brian answered many questions asked by our members who attended the luncheon. Regarding promoting the upcoming fundraising event, he emphasized that the most effective way to reach your target audience is through direct contact, rather than social media posts. He mentioned that social media outlets can be helpful but not essential, and do not yield the same results as a face-to-face conversation. He noted that his company’s busiest time is from February through April, when they typically run around 350 events.
