   This year, instead of our regular meeting at  Pio’s restaurant, our fellow Optimists got together at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County (St. Charles Unit) to stuff youth backpacks with school supplies. All of the school supplies and backpacks were laid out with packing slips for Elementary, Middle School, and High School. The task was to get 100 backpacks ready to go, but we exceeded our quota and prepared 107 backpacks.

   The group of fifteen St. Charles Optimists worked hard with great enthusiasm. They formed a human conveyor lane to speed up the process. The BGCSTC gave those backpacks away for free to children who attended the Back to School events held on July 19 at the O’Fallon Unit and on July 26 at the St Charles Unit.
